IMHO many of the websites that are successful for a long time are the ones where the Administrators and Moderators treat the members with respect.
In many ways the admins and mods are working FOR the members and the members will rally around and help a respected staff member if they in return have been treated correctly.
Some admins are technically savvy but try to lord it over their members, forgetting that without the members a website is going nowhere.

I totally agree with the OP on this. I always view it as serving the forum instead of having power over anyone!
