Shared server sometime affects the site.
Shared hosting can be extremely good if done correctly. The problem is when hosts who are offering shared hosting don't properly think through resource usage and give proper definitive lines as to acceptable usage policies.
There is nothing a shared environment allowing some high traffic websites to work really well. However, it is all down to the hardware that the servers run and the overall server 'layout' in terms of resource allocation etc..
For the average user/small business shared hosting can definitely be the way to go. Obviously if you have a huge online community/shop or something where you deal with huge volumes of traffic then you would need to find something with a bit more of a robust setup
Anyone know how many users are usually allocated to a particular server on shared hosting ?
It varies so much and depends on the size of the server, and the packages that are being offered as well.
That makes sense. I was just wondering if there was a formula, so many resources for so many clients, as I would imagine there could be a temptation to save money by having as many clients as possible using a limited amount of resources.

On our servers we never really like to exceed around 70% of maximum resource usages. Any large spikes in traffic or requests to a server can flat-line all the websites on that server. We may make less money per server, however its a better service and more stable overall and that long term is a lot beneficial for both us and our customers.
It does vary however. I know previous customers have come from servers where they have seen 400+ on one server. It just depends on hardware specs and many other things
Thank you WHE Tom. It is very useful to hear from someone who is involved with this.
